Portuguese designer Susana Soares has developed a device for detecting cancer and other serious diseases using trained bees. The bees are placed in a glass chamber into which the patient exhales; the bees fly into a smaller secondary chamber if they detect cancer.

Scientists have found that honey bees - Apis mellifera - have an extraordinary sense of smell that is more acute than that of a sniffer dog and can detect airborne molecules in the parts-per-trillion range.

Bees can be trained to detect specific chemical odours, including the biomarkers associated with diseases such as tuberculosis, lung, skin and pancreatic cancer.

my post has made its way back to me. marx always has a way of coming back to me

mlpartconfessions:

I run a small ask blog with around 160 followers, and the prospect that an artist who’s really popular will copy the concept behind my blog is something that really terrifies me.
it’s less the artist that worries me, and much more their fans. I have seen incidents of fans lashing out at a less popular artist for “copying” the artist they’re a fan of, even though said art/blog may have been made months beforehand.
it probably seems overly paranoid of me, however I’m just starting to get confidence in my art again, and the possibility of being attacked over it is something I really worry about. Especially as I’ve recently been watching a friend go through almost exactly the same scenario (where a popular artist was asked not to copy her blog, but did it anyway, and now she receives hate mail over it)

The peryton is a mythological creature resembling a deer with the wings and overall plumage of a bird. Sometimes perytons can have bird-like hind legs, but are often depicted as being entirely deer aside from the wings. Last image created by the talented Skallan of Deviantart.

and although this post still holds the record for the most notes in the “firmly grasp it” tag, nobody knows it’s mei’m famous, they just don’t know it
